Martin was born in June 1845 at Padstow, Cornwall, England.1,2 He emigrated from Plymouth DEV on 7 April 1865. as a passenger in the Cap Rouge a ship of 1002 tons. Martin immigrated to at Quebec, Canada, on 7 May 1865.3,4 He married Ellen Thompson on 15 November 1870 at Montreal, Canada. Witnesses at the wedding were George Thompson, Ekiza Ann Thompson and George Sheppard.5.6 He married Margaret Taylor before 1875. A census listed Martin as head of household in 1901 at St Antoine Ward, Montreal, Canada. His occupation was.3 Martin died at age 75 on 2 January 1921 at Montreal, Canada.7 He was buried after 2 January 1921 at Montreal, Canada. There are three Withell gravestones in Montreal's Mount Royal Cemetery. This was the primary Montreal cemetery for protestants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Mount Royal Cemetery was laid out in the 19th century in the fashion of a park. There are numerous small hills, winding roads, and many trees. It is essential to have a map, since the sections are not rectangular nor laid out in any particular order, and the plots are not generally arranged in a logocal sequence.
The Withell Ulley Taylor gravestone is in the form of a thin obelisk, and is oriented at 45" to the plot edges, presumably to avoid defining one face as "front"and thus emphasizing one of the three family names engraved on this stone.

Extract from notes compiled by P H Waldron.
The Cossentine family was of French Hugenot origin, fleeing from Brittany through religious persecution and settling in Polruan, Cornwall. This was probably in the years immediately following the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes by Louis XIV in 1685. The family establishes itself in Polruan as the village carpenter, joiner and undertaker.
At the time of the 1841 census Richard Cossentine was shown as age 64 and a parish councillor. He was then a widower living in Fore Street with his son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Selina (nee Butson) and their three children. Richard was still living with Henry and family at 22 Fore Street at the time of the 1851 Census : Henry was recorded as a carpenter with two emlpoyees and his children now numbered seven, the youngest being Emily aged 1 year. At the time of the 1861 census henry had moved tp 76 Fore Street and was described as a master joiner with apprentices, and two more children had been born. The youngest was Arthur. Arthur subsequently carried on the family business and was living at Rose Cottage, Fore Street in the summer of 1926 when Harry Waldron and his sons Phillip and Percy visited Polruan.
At the time of the 1871 Census, Henry and family with his second wife Sarah, were living at 181 Fore Street. Henry was born in 1811 at Polruan, Cornwall, England. He married Selena Butson on 21 May 1833 at Lanteglos, Cornwall, England. Witnesses were Nicholas Butson and Mary Ann Cossentine
.1 A census listed Henry as head of household on 30 March 1851 Fore Street at Lanteglos, Cornwall, England. His occupation was Carpenter.2 Henry died on 7 January 1884 at Polruan, Cornwall, England.
