William Withiel1

A birth or baptism entry has not been found for William. However he may have a connection to Richard Withyell husbandman who lived first in Fowey and moved to Luxulyan shortly before his death in 1711. It is noted that William named his son Richard.2
The marriage to Susanne has been assumed from the baptism entries for the children and needs further research. William Withiel married Susannah (?) say 1720. William Withiel died on 15 December 1731 at Tywardreath, Cornwall, England.3,4
William Withyell died intestate without making a will and on 24 December 1731 an application for administration of his estate was made. Thomas Symons gent of St Austell and William Rosevear yeoman of Luxullyan were appointed to act on behalf of the widow Hannah Withyell. There may be a note about the minority of the two children.4 His estate was probated on 17 January 1732 at St Neot, Cornwall, England. His widow passed the administration of his estate to Thomas Symons of St Austell and Willam Rosevear of Luxulyan during the minority of her son Ric and daughter Maria.5

Master John de Withiell

John was alive in 1250. Master Jn de Wythiel is recorded as paying homage and service to Ralph Arundel when the latter acquired property as a gift in perpetuity from Rich. de Tredeford. Master John was holding land in the village 'de Tredesoyt in Sourne, Probus for which he paid an annual rent of 3 1/2d. Although this document is undated, Sir Ralph Arundel was High Sherriff in 1260. The holding was later confirmed in a documemt dated 14 October 1280 in which Elynfred (?) de Arundell, kt released all his rights in the Sorn property once held by Master Jn de Wythiel in same 'vil'of -de Tredesoyt to Reg.de Trelowthas.1
The Registers of Bishop Bronecsombe record the appointment of Master John de Withiell to the parish of St Merryn.
Master John de Withiel appears to have been the last Rector. He resigned 2 July, 1259, and the next day, the Bishop collated the same clerk to the vicarage-
"appointing and willing that to all income revenue and offering, greater and lesser, of the mentioned church the same Masterii Magister-Title of clergyman with a master's degree John appoint and bequeath (order, spend) according to the freedom of his own will; excepting however in respect of the revenue of the aforesaid church, twenty marks annually to be paid to Peter of Tarentesia, Clerk, on the Feast of St. Michael and the Lord's Resurrection, in equal portions, by the hand of Master John in the Greater Church of St. Peter at (Exonie ): in such a way however that one or other of them leaving or dying the portion of the one leaving or dying accrue to the survivor on its entirety"
On the same day likewise, the Lord Bishop transferred to the said Peter of Tarentesia (Parsonatum) twenty marks income per year, in the form written above, with the ( ) of ( )personally if it happens that he obtain the whole church after the death or departure of the said John; and he had letters.
Note- Magister- Title of clergyman with a master’s degree.
