William was born at Paris, France, on 2 April 1827. Information from C F Brien ( a descendant of William) indicates that William was born in Paris..1 He was baptized by John B Williams at the parish church at St Leonard's Shoreditch at London, Middlesex, England, on 19 July 1840. William's age was given as 13 years on 2 April and the family were living in Old Street Road. William had apparently not been baptised as an infant. This may have been because the family were living in Paris when he was born, or because as stated in the shipboard diary that the father was an infidel. However it was not unusual for a late baptism to be performed prior to emigration and the family would have been preparing to travel to Plymouth for embarkation in August of that year..2 He emigrated with Richard Crispin on 30 August 1840 at Plymouth, Devon, England; A diary written by the missionary who was also a passenger, records that during the voyage the two brothers attended Sunday school in his group. He also commented that the father was not a church attendee.3 A condition made between Richard Crispin and the Australia Agriculture Company was that both sons who accompanied Richard would be trained and given emplyment. William seems to have made much better use of this opportunity than his brother John because William was to becoame an engineer with a lucrative business of his own. He was a witness at John Crispin and Mary Jane Kilpatrick's wedding at Pitt Street, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, on 21 May 1849.4 William registered to vote at South Head Road, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in 1849. He was a freeholder of a property in South Head Road.5 He resided at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in 1849, Sth Head Road.
He married Sarah A Pippin in the at Parish church of St Laurence at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, on 6 March 1851. Following the calling of banns The marriage was with the consent of the bride's mother, Sarah being under age, and in the presence of Robert Vaughan of Liverpool Street and Mary Munnott of Paddington.6,7 William joined the Victorian goldrush, purchasing a miner's right in Ballarat.8 He purchased land in Victoria, probably in 1856. This was at the height of the Victorian Gold rush and it seems likely that William came to Victoria at this time, perhaps with his brother John.. In 1904 the administrators of his estate signed an affidavit that the value did not exceed sixteen pounds.9 The miner's right entitled William to be registered as a voter in the Electoral Roll for Ballarat in 1856.10
He married Annie Jane Fleming (Crispin) in 1869. 11.12
He resided at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in 1879, at 3 City View, Glebe Road. Business at 66 Harbour street.15 He was the minister at John Hamilton's burial at Moonin Creek, Moree, New South Wales, Australia, in 1893.
He married Charlotte Smith at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in 1894. His will is evidence of this late marriage..16,9 William Crispin Esq., was listed as a Justice of the Peace at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in 1900. William was a director of the Benevolent Society, at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in 1904. The Society was responsible for the Hospital fo Women, Paddington and under the patronage of His Excellency the Governor of New South Wales, Admiral Sir Harry Holdsworth Rawson, KC.B. William was also a member of the House Committee. His wife Charlotte Crispin was a member of the Ladies Committee..17
He made a will at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, on 6 November 1903. He bequeathed to his wife Charlotte, all household furniture and other personal effects in and about his residence at the time of his decease. All his real estate was to be left in trust for his executors to manage or sell, proceeds to be divided equally between his children. His wife was to have the option of residing in his leasehold property at No. 52 Derwent Street Glebe, or to have the use of the rents and profits during her life. After her decease this property was to be disposed of. His wife was also to receive one hundred and fifty pounds yearly, the remainder of the rents to be divided equally between his children..9
He made a Codicil to his will on 21 December 1903. An additional bequest of fifty pounds was made to his wife, and a sum of twenty pounds to Doctor Thomas Morgan (Martin).
