Richard Turvile There appears to be a link between Richard and Thomas of Barwell - both named sons David, probably after their brother David. As far as is known, these are the only occurrences of the given name David in Leicestershire Turvile families. He was born on 30 January 1650 at Twycross, Leicestershire, England.1 He died after 1712. A Richard Turvile was the witness for the will of Thomas Turvile of Barwell in 1712.2

The Turville family had a history in Leicestershire dating back to the granting of land to William de Tourvile by William the Conqueror sometime after the Battle of Hastings in 1066. William de Tourville chose land near Thurlaston Brook, a small tributary of the River Soarand eventually the new settlement became known as Normanton Turville.
It is believed that Thomas Turvile was baptised on 23 August 1612 at Narborough, Leicestershire, England. Note re his parents etc. Thomas Turvile of Shenton married Anne Panton on 28 May 1639 at Twycross, Leicestershire, England.1
Following their marriage Thomas and Anne settled in the area near Twycross, possibly at Shenton which was a chapelry in Market Bosworth. However this was a period of great unrest in England and between 1642 and 1651 there were a series of armed conflicts between the supporters of King Charles 1 and those supporting parliament. When Charles was executed on Tuesday, 30 January 1649 the rule of the monarchy was replaced, first with the Commonwealth of England (1649–53), and then with a Protectorate (1653–59), under Oliver Cromwell's personal rule. During this period, churches were not required to send records of marriages, baptisms and burials to the Bishop and consequently very few entries were recorded in the parish registers.
However a baptism for one son Richard was found in the Twycross parish register and various other sources indicate that Thomas and Anne had three sons. Shenton was a small rural community quite close to Twycross and Thomas occupied a small property there. It is not known if this was a freehold property or a lease but he was listed in the tax roll for Shenton on Lady Day in 1666 as having to pay tax for 1 hearth. He was one of only two Thomas Turviles listed in the county of Leicestershire. The other was Thomas Turvile of Narborough who was probably a cousin.2 Thomas Turvile of Shenton died before 30 November 1687 and was buried at Shenton, Leicestershire, England.3
